The Pinford Moms and Simple Summer fun!

pinford mom

It’s no secret that I love to throw fun, themed birthday parties for my kids. I  make all of their cakes and we just have a great time at home with a good old-fashioned home birthday parties. I want everything to be perfect, and lets face it! Nothing ever is.  I was browsing pinterest and pinning away when I decided to look at my actual Pinterst Boards. Let’s see, 32 boards and 1322 pins and guess how many of thos pins I have actually done? Go ahead and take a guess?. I might have, maybe actually done four of those craft projects or recipes that I have pinned! Talk about setting your expectations too high! Yep i do that to myself often, how about you?

Many times at a party at a friends house I will hear friends say how they Seen it on Pinterest! As if to say, That’s what all the good moms do! Well, there you have it folks! We are turning into  The Pinford moms! (aka Pinterest moms+ Stepford wives = Pinford moms)  Since when do we have to entertain our children by spending hundreds of dollars on craft supplies just so we can make those magical memories with our kids? and you always have to go back to the store to get that one thing to make it work! You know that special mod podge, or the chalkboard paint. Oh wait there is a pin for how to make chalkboard paint, huh? There’s a pin for everything!  Is Pinterest setting us up for feelings of guilt and inadequacy? What happened to simple, inexpensive ways of having fun with our children? When did just playing outside stop being enough?

Okay, so that was question overload, sorry about that  but I think you get the point. Last weekend I spent much of the time outdoors with my kids , and since funds were low, well we just played outside with the water hose! Good old fashioned, cheap fun! And it was great!  Oh my how it has become one of my favorite memories! We put all three kids in bathing suits and set up the sprinkler and let them Play! Running and playing as kids should be doing.  I can still hear them laughing in my head, the best sound ever is that of a childs laugh!

Once bored with the sprinkler, I took a bucket, filled it up with soap and water and let the kids wash their cars! Yep, the cozy coupes got a day of spa  pampering! They loved it! Hours was spent on washing and rinsing those cars, and guess what? One less thing for mommy to clean so hey, it was a win, win! The best part was watching all three kids wash the cars together as a team! They were so entranced that they didn’t once fight, kick or scream at each other! no really, I was pretty impressed!  Hope for the future maybe… Nah that’s just wishful thinking!

A couple of hours later we took the water hose and just had war on each other! Everyone was fair game! Mom,dad, 6yo,4yo and 1yo soaking wet and having a blast! Chasing and laughing and carrying on with no worries in the world! We didn’t have to be anywhere, didn’t have to check a calendar, it was just quality time at home!  I didn’t have to run to the store to get the one thing I needed, to make the one thing. Pinford moms ( and I sometimes include myself in this category) Remember, you do not need a fancy outing to enjoy your kids.. It doesn’t have to be perfect! They will have fun with  just fresh air and water, and those two items come at the price of free. That coupled with the smiles on your little ones faces = Priceless! Share your favorite memory with your kids.. Was it a pinterst idea or was it as simple as watching cartoons with your kids? Share your experience with me.

I am a wife of ten years, mom of three, Nurse and student! My household is quite chaotic and busy. With a six year old going on sixteen. we shall call her "Sassy", a four year old, who is stubborn as a mule, she shall be called " mini me", and a one year old, we will call "Buddy". Our girls do Ballet, and our son, well he is all boy! Very curious and always getting in to something. When we found out we were having a boy i laughed and said " god must have known we needed a little less diva in our life," Ha, little boys are quite the handful! I love my kids with all of my heart, and i love my job too! As a nurse leader i get to see many sides to healthcare and help encourage and guide new nurses. I love taking care of patients and being able to have grown up talk and then come home to my babies. The house is usually chaotic with lots of tantrums, and messes, but i wouldn't change it for a bit. On the rare occasion that i am able to have some spare time to myself, i like to read, bake and decorate cakes, and take pictures of my kiddos. Time to myself is rare so i decided to start this blog to have a creative outlet and connect with other working moms, who might be going through the same situations as myself. I hope you enjoy my thoughts and stories as a mom, student, wife and Nurse! These stories will range from Diapers and tutus to meetings and boardrooms! and everything that falls in between. Enjoy and thanks for visiting my site.

  1. I often get my nieces and nephews to help me wash my car when they are over… I don’t know why but they LOVE doing it! They even ask to do it when they come over hahaha.
