Quick Question…..

Okay, so the post I was working on just got lost.. So I will just ask you this. What did you think of the Just Like a girl Commercial? Once I have time to finish my post I will give you my opinion on the subject, but wanted to hear your thoughts.

I am a wife of ten years, mom of three, Nurse and student! My household is quite chaotic and busy. With a six year old going on sixteen. we shall call her "Sassy", a four year old, who is stubborn as a mule, she shall be called " mini me", and a one year old, we will call "Buddy". Our girls do Ballet, and our son, well he is all boy! Very curious and always getting in to something. When we found out we were having a boy i laughed and said " god must have known we needed a little less diva in our life," Ha, little boys are quite the handful! I love my kids with all of my heart, and i love my job too! As a nurse leader i get to see many sides to healthcare and help encourage and guide new nurses. I love taking care of patients and being able to have grown up talk and then come home to my babies. The house is usually chaotic with lots of tantrums, and messes, but i wouldn't change it for a bit. On the rare occasion that i am able to have some spare time to myself, i like to read, bake and decorate cakes, and take pictures of my kiddos. Time to myself is rare so i decided to start this blog to have a creative outlet and connect with other working moms, who might be going through the same situations as myself. I hope you enjoy my thoughts and stories as a mom, student, wife and Nurse! These stories will range from Diapers and tutus to meetings and boardrooms! and everything that falls in between. Enjoy and thanks for visiting my site.

  1. I didn’t see any of the game or commercials, so I may go in reverse order and read what you have to say first. 🙂

  2. I think it is true to a point but we have to be careful of the feelings of girls who want to be fluffy princesses too. Some girls and rough and tumble and some are not. Making all language bad or suspect kind of limits thought the other direction. Set your values and let them go.

  3. I think there’s good and bad sides to the commercial. The message is meant to be positive and maybe we should leave it at that and not overanalyse, but the ad does tend to make it seem like a black and white distinction: you’re either a complete ‘girly girl’ who fights like a limp wristed lemur or you’re a rough and tough tomboy. Where’s the middle ground? The balance?

    1. Exactly. And to me what about the boys who are insecure. They need someone to take a stand for them too. I do think the commercial was meant to be positive but can’t help but feel like the stereotype isn’t a concern these days. Gender rules are blurry and for me, well I run like a girl because I am a girl 😉

  4. On a broader scale than the silly stereotype about woman’s athletic ability, it troubles me how we as a society continue to coddle those on the receiving end of unpleasant people and their ignorant comments… I would prefer we teach kids that instead of whining about mean people that they either consider the source and ignore the barbs entirely or use the negativity to motivate themselves to prove their distractors wrong… Either way we need to build self esteem and self confidence ito such a point that they laugh at the fools who feel the need to tear down others

Aren’t you glad you asked 😉
